Fuerteventura apoya los juegos y deportes autóctonos con subvenciones a entidades federativas. El Cabildo Insular destinará 148.000 euros para recuperar, difundir y, en definitiva, mantener vivas modalidades tradicionales como Barquillos de Vela Latina Canaria, Lucha del Garrote Canario, Juego del Palo Canario, Lucha Canaria y Bola Canaria.
El consejero de Deportes, Luis González, explicaba que “dentro del programa de gobierno, tienen especial consideración el compromiso con los juegos y deportes tradicionales autóctonos, porque entendemos que no sólo reviste un cariz deportivo, sino que también tiene un fundamento cultural y de defensa del patrimonio canario”.
Con la firma de seis convenios y una inyección de 148.000 euros, estas ayudas persiguen apoyar a las federaciones en el desarrollo de actividades de promoción de los deportes tradicionales canarios en Fuerteventura. Se trata de garantizar la supervivencia y el desarrollo de estas prácticas tradicionales, no solo como herencia cultural del pueblo majorero sino como herramienta de promoción turística.
Estas subvenciones tienen su correspondencia con la divulgación de dichas prácticas como finalidad y utilidad pública de específica competencia de la Consejería de Deportes, conforme a la `Ley 1/2019, de 30 de enero, de la actividad física y el deporte de Canarias´.
